MEET JENNIE

Jennie Kallao, founder and owner of Jennie Kallao Interiors, is one of the Charlotte area's most experienced designers. With over 30 years’ experience in interior design, she draws on her refined classic style and artistic eye to create warm and elegant interiors that are inspired by her client’s personal taste and influenced by the best in the world of interior design.

With an educational background in Art, Jennie began her career in design working for one of High Point, North Carolina’s most talented and renowned designers and was quickly immersed into the world of interior design.  She fell in love with the range of details and challenges involved in every project, from working with custom upholsterers to window treatment fabricators to faux painters. Consistent access to the International Home Furnishings Market as well as exposure to fine antique selection and procurement provided her with invaluable knowledge of industry sources and product lines.

In 2007, Jennie stepped out on her own professionally, establishing herself as an Independent Residential Interior Designer in Charlotte.  She develops and nurtures rewarding and long lasting working relationships with her design clients, working diligently to produce exclusive custom designs to fit the tastes of each customer. Jennie has also developed a support team of reliable, resourceful suppliers and subcontractors. Her business has prospered and grown as she has welcomed opportunities to create interiors for the secondary homes of clients in NC, SC, GA, PA and FL.

Jennie Kallao affirms every home should be a treasured space, offering the most in ease and enjoyment of every day living and reflecting what one loves in life. She engages each design project with fresh creativity and exuberance. Her warm approach and confident perspective provide her clients with an unintimidated and rewarding journey through the design process.

Whether breathing new life into a traditional space, introducing a modern twist to a classic room, or creating an entirely new interior, Jennie approaches each job individually. She listens carefully to her client’s expectations, works within their personal preferences and budget, and sees the project to completion.

Jennie believes that while popular industry trends may provide a quick palette for a new home or an easy enhancement to a dated décor, it is far more pleasing to find inspiration in a unique treasure or unexpected focal point.  An antique Chinese Wedding Bed Canopy or a grandfather’s WWII memorabilia can enkindle originality with great possibilities!

“A plan is always a good place to start, but more often it is not the best place to finish” says Jennie.   “I encourage my clients to allow a room to take shape as we go, with spontaneous tweaks and careful attention to details guiding the outcome. I love walking in to a room and feeling like I just walked in to a lovely curation of someone’s life!  To have the feeling that you know something endearing about the person who lives there.”
